We-Did-A-Walk

DSCN1069As of Wednesday, March 13, the pTiny pTerodactyl, Y-Bo and I finished our mission to walk the 1049 minutes needed to be part of the 2013 Idita-Walk! And we manage to complete this trek with 88 minutes to spare! Pardon my immodesty but…AwwwwRight!

I think I can safely say that the three of us had a thoroughly good time. Sure, the weather wasn’t always in our favor, but Y-Bo’s a sturdy pup and loves the cold, I’m your basic couch potato who was desperate for some exercise and my grandson, pTpT is a very good sport who enjoys napping in the fresh air under his grandma’s endless supply of warm, comfy blankets.

DSCN0710 (800x593)But we weren’t the only ones in my family to benefit from the Idita-Walk experience. My precious Princess Cat, has enjoyed her daily Golden String romps. I don’t know that she’s lost any weight. However, in just these few short weeks, she has lost her ‘wheeze’ and has gained a bit more stamina. On a purely selfish note, her increased activity has provided me with several photography sitting–where she’s done very little sitting but lots of showing-off that I can, in turn, show-off on this blog. Win-Win!

A special shout out goes to my fellow team mates of Team Dogventurers. On those sleeting, gray mornings as I hiked along, it warmed me to think of the rest of you tromping around in the gloom, too. I’d also like to thank YouDidWhatWithYouWeiner and Terrier Torrent (Gizmo) for their combined efforts which enabled the rest of us to form a group. And, last but not least, thanks go to Tales and Tails for telling me about the Idita Walk it in the first place. I look forward to hearing about everybody’s experiences on the trail.

But now, I must close…The pTiny pTerodactyl and I are off to get some new walking shoes while poor Y-Bo soaks his tired paws.

About Loy Cerf

After many years of writing short romance story for magazines and being published in several anthology books, most notably the Adams Media Cup of Comfort series, I decided to start my own blog. Though I'm Ohio born and raised, I've called the Chicago suburbs home for most of my adult life. Married to the same guy for over 40 years, yikes, indeed, we've got two grown kids, one pTiny pTerodactyl grandson, two cats and one big dog. Currently we have no fish and are not in the market for any.

Congrats to the three of you! This was part of our plans too, but we have had ice all winter long and I’m not the most graceful girl, so we didn’t get started. This morning finds our backdoor frozen shut and since that is Stella’s pee door, its making her nervous. We just went for a walk to take care of that. We got four inches of new snow yesterday and we are down for sub-zero temps today. Cheers for your endurance, Y-Bo’s and the little guy !

WOW, Fantastic! I wish I had discovered your blog earlier in the year, My Boston Terrier Piggy and I would have joined this walk with guys. Maybe next year?!?

I Love, Love, Love the last photo with all your shoes (and paws).

    • Loy Cerf says:

Absolutely, join us next year. It’s been a lot of fun–not to mention exercise! Thanks for stopping by!

      • Holly says:

I have already entered it into my electronic calendar so I will be ahead of the game next year. I might try to find something similar now…it seems like a great way to stay motivated.

  3. Congratulations. We are behind but I think we will still pull it together by the end of the month.

  4. Ann Paws says:

Congratulations your guys! Maybe with better weather coming up, you’ll get even more walks in. I’m still trying to teach my oldest daughter to ride her bike. She didn’t do well on our first bike ride… lol

  5. coralee says:

That’s great! Congratulations! Good news about your Princess Cat, too.

    • Loy Cerf says:

Thanks! Yes, I’m happy about the Princess as well. She’s not getting any younger so wheezing is scary! Thanks for stopping by!

  8. houndstooth says:

I think we’ve all earned new shoes this year! lol We’re almost done, too! It is really good for keeping me motivated to get out and move during a time when I normally would hibernate. I love that Bunny is starting to hint around about going for walks, now, too! I’m so glad it was such a great experience for you! You’re setting pT pT up with some great lifelong habits, too.

    • Loy Cerf says:

Have fun shoe-shopping–it’s great–and provides lots of exercise! LOL I hope that pTpT got something out of this–besides some good sleep! Thanks for stopping by!

  9. Good for you! Not sure my schnauzers and I would have made it!

    • Loy Cerf says:

You know, it was not so difficult as I thought it would be. I think the just the number ’1049′ is a little jolting at first. But stretched over 59 days, it’s like walking 35 minutes every other day. And that’s how I got through it! LOL Thanks for stopping by!

  10. Congratulations! Yup the weather really sucks for sure are we really getting 5in of snow tonight? WHEN the weather improves mom always takes me on new adventures we would love to walk with you someday! Love Dolly

    • Loy Cerf says:

SNOW??? Oh geez! That would be great to walk with you Dolly! It’s gotta get warm someday!!! Happy St.Patrick’s Day! Thanks for stopping by!

  11. WOOT! That is so great Loy…I give you big props for persevering through what has been a cold and dreary winter for you…Gizmo & I have completed our challenge too, but I know we’ve had a much easier time of it here…Hope that the Team keeps up the good work and that we all keep up with this great new habit

  12. Jan K says:

Those of you who finished early and kept going were really what inspired me to keep going. I was almost ready to give up at one point….so congratulations to you and thank you for helping to keep me going, we just barely made it but we made it!

  13. Congratulations on finishing…and finishing with a bang! We were happy to be on a team with you. I think I would have liked to spend some of my walking sleeping under your warm blankets too though :)
